3G cellular technology for remote SCADA or telemetry applicationsPAQWORKS has released an industrial modem/router with 3G cellular technology for remote SCADA or telemetry applications.
The Cybertec Series 1000 interfaces with both serial and Ethernet enabled devices by using the 3G cellular data networks. According to the company, this unit will be a critical upgrade for remote applications as Telstra switches off its CDMA network coverage.
The unit has two switched Ethernet ports as standard, eliminate the need for an external switch. The switch is fully managed and supports VLAN and Quality of Service functionality.
The modem emulates dial-up modems to provide backward compatible with legacy serial hardware such as RTUs and PLCs. Serial ports can also be accessed as circuit switched data or as packet switched data.
The Cybertec Series 1000 comes in two variations offering up to three serial ports, each with configuration options including support for DNP3 and Modbus over Internet Protocol.
The modem units are said to come with a robust and rugged industrial enclosure. The company claims they can be used in harsh environments, and can be DIN rail or wall mounted.
