LIGHTING manufacturer Acuity Brands gained increased throughput and reliability by replacing its network of autonomous access points with cooperative control wireless networking technology.
The new equipment and networking configuration from Aerohive Networks will support the company’s critical systems, and is made up of hundreds of wireless network access points distributed among 24 facilities.
The manufacturer chose to overhaul its setup because the previous network did not have centralised management, was hard to maintain, and did not provide the seamless roaming capability needed for the company’s planned network-based voice initiative.
According to the company, Aerohive’s solution does not use controllers and was cheaper than alternatives. The wireless cooperative control network is decentralised, but can be administered from a single site.
