THE WORLD’S second largest producer of hard coking coal has purchased a number of equipment simulators for training its operators.
Immersive Technologies had originally provided Elk Valley Coal with an Advanced Equipment (AE) Simulator for the Caterpillar 793C in May 2007.
In May 2008, the Canadian coal company purchased a further five AE Simulator units and ten simulator modules including a Light Vehicle Simulator, expanding the use of simulators to other operations.
According to the supplier, the operator training from the first AE Simulator has more than doubled the tyre life of the vehicles. Simulators are suitable for training both unskilled and skilled employees in a safe learning environment.
