RS COMPONENTS is distributing a cordless soldering iron which is said to mitigate the risk of sparks and flames.
The HAKKO FX-901 is said to be a lightweight, portable, battery-operated soldering iron. It is powered by four AA alkaline or nickel-metal hydride batteries, and operates above 315 degrees Celsius for up to 120 continuous minutes.
The tool has a quick-change composite tip, a separate battery magazine for easy replacement of batteries, and a protective safety cap which turns the unit off when it is put on.
Many cordless soldering tools spark, risking damage to sensitive electronic components. Butane is used in other tools, potentially igniting flammable vapours and being a safety risk. The manufacturer claims the FX-901 is totally safe, with no spark and no flame.
The unit can be used by electricians, field service technicians, and IT equipment maintenance personnel.
