Manufacturers and other industrial users are constantly collecting information, be it from environmental sensors, RFID tag readers, servers, swipe-card terminals or other technologies.CSIRO and the Statistic Society of Australia has organised a symposium looking at developing new services and industries based on industrial statistics.

Along with the opportunities offered by a meaningful use of this data, there are also risks.
Citing Google as an example of the potential for success from the field of information and statistical analysis, the symposium organisers claim by integrating data from different sources and looking at how people draw conclusions from them, Australia can replicate the advantages offered by these numbers.
