DIGI International has released an extended-range radio frequency (RF) module for ZigBee mesh networking with up to 1.6km of RF line-of-sight transmission.
The XBEE-Pro ZNet 2.5 is said to increase the number of applications in which ZigBee mesh networking can be used. It is compatible with other networking products from the company, such as RF modules, adapters, wall routers and gateways.
The networking technology can be used for applications where there is a greater distance between nodes, such as automated meter reading, asset management and remote sensor management.
The manufacturer claims the wireless data communication is reliable, low cost and low-power. The unit comes ready to use out of the box.
