Digital prototyping technology to fuse parametric and direct modelling

AUTODESK has revealed plans for a new digital prototyping technology which fuses the advantages of both parametric, history-based modelling with that of direct, history-free approaches.

According to the company, the Inventor Fusion Technology would have both the power and control of parametric modelling, and the ease of use and productivity of direct modelling.

The bi-directional workflows would enable companies to make rapid changes to a design through direct manipulation, and at the same time access, use and maintain feature- and history-based data and design intents.

Users will no longer be forced to choose between modelling approaches. Instead, they can adopt the approach which is most appropriate to the task at hand.

The technology will also allow designers and engineers to explore what-if scenarios and make rapid design changes without the limitations and dependencies or the original 3D CAD system used to create the design.
