AUTODESK says it will appoint a second distributor in Australia by the end of 2008.
Autodesk is currently distributed in Australia by Scholastic, although a proportion of the software developer’s business is also done through value added resellers (VARs).
According to the company, it is growing 18% globally per year, and has targeted a growth rate of 36% by 2012. This requires it to extend its reach.
The second Australian distributor will carry its AutoCAD LT and AutoCAD ‘volume’ lines, with the vertical products remaining with the VARs.
Managing director Hanspeter Eiselt said having two distributors is not a unique position for Australia to be in, because most mature markets such as those in the UK and Germany have two distributors.
The distributor would have resellers which could provide hardware, training and services to customers. It will seek out small customers as well as larger, mid-market customers for its volume products.
The company claims the second distributor should fill areas not in Scholastic’s portfolio, reducing the chances of conflict.
