SIEMENS PLM Software has announced its synchronous technology, in what is touted as a breakthrough in digital product development.
According to the company, this technology is the product lifecycle management (PLM) industry’s first history-free feature-based modelling technology, allowing for a designing experience up to 100 times faster than currently possible.
The technology is said to combine the best of constraint-driven techniques with direct modelling. It was launched via a global webcast, which can be viewed in two parts below.
According to Siemens, the company realised the potential of synchronous technology when it was acquiring UGS. The digital model afforded by this new technology will impact every phase of the PLM process.
It is hoped the instantaneous modelling experience will change the way manufacturers design products. The technology is said to enable CAD designers to transition from thinking about the ‘how’ of modelling to ‘what’ they want to model.
The core of the design technology is a new decision-making inference engine which simultaneously synchronises geometry and rules. This is said to allow faster idea capture and design changes, improved multi-CAD reuse without remodelling, and a new paradigm in user experience.
The company’s next versions of NX and Solid Edge will integrate the technology as a proprietary application layer built on its D-Cubed and Parasolid software. The software will be launched on 21 May 2008.
