Track Trailer moves to 3D, streamlines design process

TRACK Trailer, an Australian company which builds off-road campers, has improved its design and build process by moving from 2D AutoCAD to 3D Inventor software.

The company wanted to develop a new off-road four metre caravan incorporating a suspension system used in previous vehicles. Realising the limitations of 2D software, the designers looked for a 3D modelling package to increase efficiency and product quality.

IMAGINiT Technologies www.imaginit.com.au worked with the camper manufacturer, and introduced Autodesk Inventor, and provided training and support for the software.

Using Inventor, the company could check clearances and access points and work out the build from the assembly point of view from the beginning of the design process.

According to Track Trailer, the 3D modelling technology minimised errors, making build time twice as efficient. The software also improved the accuracy and consistency of the sheet metal, because information could be sent directly to the fabricators with little to no manual drafting.
