SAVCOR says it will be accelerating its growth in the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology market by acquiring a manufacturer of RFID antennas.
The company has acquired Finland-based Intune Circuits, which produces and supplies the antennas used in RFID tags and inlays. It will inherit the business’s global customers as well as the intellectual property and manufacturing capabilities.
Intune will also provide the company with the technology and expertise to manufacture aluminium antennas, which will be useful in the move toward low-cost pervasive tags in high-volume applications.
Savcor has also signed an agreement to manufacturer and supply UPM Raflatac with a new type of high frequency, ultra high resolution RFID antenna.
According to the company, its move into the RFID antenna market is well-considered, since RFID tags account for almost 40% of total expenditure on the technology. Each tag consists of an inlay, which incorporates the antenna and an integrated circuit, regardless of what form it takes.
