ROBOTIC Automation says it has installed a robot in a Cadbury plant for the sweet task of handling chocolates.
The company is the Australian distributor for Motoman Robots, which are used for welding, palletising, materials handling and machine tending.
In the case of Cadbury, it installed the Motoman SV3 robot to improve profitability and reduce the risk of repetitive strain injuries.
According to the automation provider, it evaluated different solutions for the chocolate-maker’s needs, including Cartesian robots. However, the six-axis SV3 was selected because of its increased dexterity, reducing tooling costs and allowing more flexibility in work station design.
The product is controlled throughout the process, eliminating the need for vision systems. The manufacturer also touted the cycle speed, compact design and cost of the robot solution.
In another part of the Cadbury plant, a robotic Easter egg de-moulder uses two Motoman UP 20 robots.
