MARAND Precision Engineering has attributed its winning of the 2008 Manufacturer of the Year Award to its investment in technology such as computer aided design (CAD).
The fifth annual Manufacturers’ Monthly Endeavour Awards at the National Manufacturing Week in Sydney saw Marand winning the Manufacturer of the Year, Exporter of the Year and Global Integration awards.
The company says the awards mean its long term plans are beginning to be recognised. The engineering firm mostly deals with aerospace export, highly engineered automated production and automotive assembly tooling.
According to the manufacturer, it has spent over $1m in CAD licences and workstations over the last five years, and created jobs for more than 25 apprentices and graduate engineers.
It claims to have been hard at work researching and implementing Computer Aided Design, Computer Aided Manufacturing and Computer Aided Engineering software solutions.
In 2001, in response to expansion, Marand reviewed user-friendly 3D programming software packages based on a “Shop Floor” programming philosophy, resulting in the implementation of a comprehensive training program for shop floor machine programmers and operators.
It was also the first company in Australia to install CATIA V5 3D software onto a single Windows based PC design seat. This allowed it to support the Airbus A380 program.
Marand now uses advanced robotic and automated production line simulation software to assist its engineers to demonstrate concepts and to visualise the final solution.
