Wireless RFID tracks electronics

TYCO Electronics has adopted a wireless radio frequency identification asset tracking solution to locate tractor trailers between its distribution centre and manufacturing facilities.
The OATSystems solution will be mounted on tractor trailers transporting electronic and fibre optic components on a tight production schedule.
The company’s distribution centres are said to function like airline hubs. They receive parts from multiple origins and send them to their final destinations.
According to the company, the wireless RFID system will allow the company to gain visibility into the locations of truckloads of high-value electronic components during transit and ensure accurate proof-of-delivery.
