ADVANTECH says it supplied a number of products and application solutions to the Olympics for security and traffic control.
During the Olympics, the Beijing authorities deployed 100,000 police officers for security patrols.
Various technologies complemented the security solution, with personal article magnifiers, security sensors, and handheld security instruments installed at the Olympic village, media village, the airport, train stations, subway stations and hotels.
According to Advantech, its industrial-grade, rack-mount industrial computer chassis and motherboards were at the heart of many of these appliances.
High-performance industrial ATX dual-core motherboards transmitted image signal data collected by the X-ray sensors to security guards’ handheld display panels, and data was stored in a mainframe computer for reading and management use.
Prior to the games, the authorities conducted major expansion of the city’s subway system to increase capacity. Advantech’s ISCS and the UNO-2679 embedded systems were used as mechanical and electronic control systems.
They were responsible for directing ticketing installations, electronic interlocking systems, security, railway crossing monitoring, signalling, destination data displays, and telecommunication-centric train traffic control systems.
