RIVERBED Technology has announced its Riverbed Steelhead Wide Area Network (WAN) optimisation solution to accelerate the performance of Autodesk AutoCAD 2010 by up to 100 times.
According to Riverbed, the Riverbed Steelhead WAN optimisation solution is suited for clients who use Autodesk’s AutoCAD 2010 over Wide Area Networks. It can also cut WAN bandwidth consumption by 50% to 90%.
Riverbed claims the WAN optimisation solution for AutoCAD 2010 allows distributed architecture, engineering and construction firms to quickly access large files for the design and development of new projects, resulting in real-time collaboration.
Many companies depend heavily on AutoCAD for their design processes, using its 3D free-form design tools and powerful drafting and documentation capabilities. However, AutoCAD can often generate drawing files which exceed hundreds of megabytes in size on larger projects.
For firms with distributed offices or a global presence, sharing and collaborating on large CAD documents can often lead to significant delays in accessing drawings during normal file open and save operations.
According to Riverbed, using Riverbed Steelhead, architects and engineers can collaborate between offices around the world as if they were in the same room. The company says tests of its product saw file opening times slashed from 30 minutes to seconds.
